Student Members FAQ
What is the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association?
NIRSA is a national (and international) not-for-profit association that focuses on collegiate recreational sports. NIRSA is a developmental tool and an educational resource. As a student member, involvement in NIRSA is a character-building experience and an investment in your future.
What is the mission of the organization?
NIRSA's mission is to "provide for the education and development of professional and student members and to foster quality recreational programs, facilities and services for diverse populations. NIRSA demonstrates its commitment to excellence by utilizing resources that promote ethical and healthy lifestyle choices." NIRSA offers opportunities for development through internships, assistantships, and jobs.
As a student, how do I get started?
You've already taken the first step, by checking out this site! You can contact any of your many, many student representatives. There are Campus Contact, State Student Leaders, Regional Student Leaders, and even a National Student Leader. If none of these people can help, contact the NIRSA National Center. We are always looking for people to volunteer and present at conferences. We can always use the extra help!
How many student members are there?
NIRSA has over 4,000 members and more than 1,000 are students, and we are always looking for more! The more students we have now, the more terrific recreational leaders we'll have later! Join now...
Where is NIRSA actually located?
The NIRSA headquarters, or NIRSA National Center, is in beautiful Corvallis, Oregon. We (all the NIRSA Members) are proud owners of the building where the "behind-the-scenes" magic occurs. As of July 10, 1998 the excellent National Center staff had this new building to call home and hang their hat! If you'd like to contact the people who make it all happen.

NIRSA is also (somewhat) located on every campus where its professional and student members take back information obtained from conferences and implement in their own departments!
Do students really have a say in NIRSA?
Why of course they do! NIRSA is an awesome association in which students have the same priority as professionals! The organization offers leadership opportunities for students to serve as State Student Leaders and Regional Student Leaders, or as the National Student Leader!
Along with having representation at every possible level, we also have seven votes at the annual business meeting. The National Student Leaders and six Regional Student Leaders vote at the business meeting on issues affecting the leadership of the association and its bylaws.
