The Game, Players, and Equipment
Team must be available to play during the entire course of the tournament.
The game will be played in two ten (10) minute halves with an intermission of three minutes. The clock will run continuously.
The game is played on a regulation diagrammed football field starting with the ball on the 50 yard line.
The team in possession of the ball chooses which yardage amount (question) they wish to attempt per down. With each correct response the team advances 5, 10, 15 yards, depending on the difficulty of the question.
All players must have current University ID
The contest is a double-elimination tournament. Each match (one game) is played between two teams of three players.
A team captain must be designated before the start of the match. Teams may confer after the question has been completely read by the moderator. Only the team captain is allowed to answer the questions. Any other team member responding will constitute a turnover.
The game will start with a coin toss. The winners will receive possession of the ball (which allows the team to answer the first question.
After a question is read, the team in possession has 10 seconds to answer. If 10 seconds elapses before an answer is attempted, this is considered a turnover.
An incorrect response constitutes a turnover.
Each team is allowed one 10 second time out per half. A team may only call a time out when they are in possession of the ball.
Each team is allowed to attempt a "Bomb" pass. The team announces to the moderator that they are attempting "the bomb". A correct answer advances the ball 50 yards. An incorrect answer is treated a turnover.
A touchdown (six points) is scored when the football completely crosses the goal line. If the ball is on the 5 yard line it will take two correct answers to two questions to get a score.
Another question is read for the extra point.
If a game ends in a tie the winner will be determined by the team with the most questions answered correctly. If a tie still exists, a 5 minute sudden death period with the first team to score, determines the winner, or the team with the most questions answered correctly.
If the game ends while the moderator is reading the question he/she will stop there, without giving the team the opportunity to answer. If the team interrupts the moderator while reading the question before the time expires, the correct answer will count toward the questions answered correctly total.
If the moderator inadvertently gives an answer or someone in the audience gives an answer, the question is thrown out.
If a team believes they know the answer to a question before it has been completed, they may interrupt the moderator. If the answer is wrong the team fumbles and the entire question is repeated for the other team.
All Trivia questions are selected randomly prior to the competition. They are asked in the order of that selection by the moderator.
The moderator has final say regarding validity of answers and accuracy of questions. The moderator may throw out questions due to vagueness. The moderator also has the right to ask for a more specific answer when appropriate.
