Intramural Rules

The following intramural rules were put together by the NIRSA Intramural Committee and are suggestions only. Many of the examples provided are guidelines developed and used at other colleges/universities. NIRSA recognizes the fact that there is a national diversity of programs, and some situations/rules may be neither appropriate nor feasible for every institution. Therefore, all colleges/universities should select the most appropriate course of action for their individual program.

The NIRSA Intramural Committee, in association with the Sports Officials Development Program, is working to revamp this rules page with an expanded resource of sport rules, program policies & procedures, and training materials.  The enhanced resource is slated for launch in early 2010.

REMINDER: NIRSA provides official rules for flag & touch football and slow pitch softball, along with rule books and clinician kits for a variety of other common intramural sports, available in the Sports Officials Education section of the NIRSA Education and Publication Center.
