VOTING/ELECTIONS

Summary of proposed amendment to the preamble of NIRSA Bylaws - Mission Statement

In early March, NIRSA Members will have the opportunity to vote on a new Mission Statement, endorsed by the NIRSA Board of Directors. As part of a strategic planning process that began in June of 2011, the Board invited input from Members through a variety of forums (State and Regional meetings, email, and on Habitat), and used those ideas to re-draft a Mission Statement.

The proposed Mission Statement better articulates the leadership role of NIRSA and the important role of collegiate recreation within the field of higher education. For the background and rationale for the proposed Bylaw Amendment, please see the related article.

A special electronic ballot for a proposed amendment to the Bylaws will be emailed to all current NIRSA Professional Members on March 2, 2012. Members will vote to adopt or defeat the Proposed Mission Statement below (endorsed by the NIRSA Board of Directors on January 24, 2012):

NIRSA is a leader in higher education and the advocate for the advancement of recreation, sport and wellness by providing educational and developmental opportunities, generating and sharing knowledge, and promoting networking and growth for our members.
