Board of Directors Information

In the Future First Governance structure, the Board of Directors' role has been re-focused with the Board now functioning as the visionary leadership that strategically positions and drives the Association. The Board is responsible for strategic planning, supervision of the Executive Director, oversight of fiduciary and legal responsibilities, establishing policy, and serving as sole shareholder of NIRSA Services Corporation.

Composition of the Board of Directors

As explained in greater detail on the Governance Transition web page, in 2012 the NIRSA Board of Directors will be a seven person Board comprised of three officers in the Presidential Track positions (President, President Designee, and President Elect), three At-Large Directors, and a Board-elected Annual Director.

Position descriptions

Position descriptions have been developed and approved by the Board for Presidential Track, At-Large Director and Annual Director positions on the Board. Please review the descriptions when considering a leadership position on the Board.

Nomination, Application and Election Process

The Nominations & Appointments Committee recruits nominees, reviews applications and supporting materials, and determines the slate of candidates for  the At-Large Director and Presidential Track positions on the NIRSA Board of Directors.

New in 2011, candidates interested in serving in a Board position, were asked to submit an initial application, consisting of a resume and letter of application by September 23, 2011. The committee then invited Finalists to submit the Board of Directors application package by October 24, 2011.

The final slate of candidates will be approved by the current NIRSA Board and announced in early December.  Electronic elections will occur January 4-18, 2012, with results announced shortly thereafter.
