The NIRSA Institutional Data Set is a powerful benchmarking tool that will provide NIRSA Members with access to current and relevant data on the facilities, programs, and services offered by NIRSA Institutional Members. Data points will be compiled in one consistent format and updated annually. After this year, you will only have to edit information that has changed from the previous year. For the initial rollout of the NIRSA Institutional Data Set, data points are grouped into the following four categories:
- Facilities
- Programs and Services
- Human Resources
- Finances
How Will This Help Me?
- Data will be more accessible and easier to navigate
- Ability to query data on hundreds of institutions, set parameters around the data you want to see, and filter out unnecessary information
- Reduce the number of surveys and short email questions you receive
- Decrease the length of any surveys that will be circulated
Who Can Access the Data?
- NIRSA Members (professional and student) at NIRSA Member Institutions
How will NIRSA collect the information needed to populate the data set?
- Directors at NIRSA Member Institutions were sent an electronic invitation to provide information about their respective institutions in mid-October, 2011. The window of data collection was open until mid January, 2012.
- Data that your institution has already shared with NIRSA will be pre-populated at the initial point of data collection, making the collection of complete data sets for each institution a more manageable endeavor.
When will Institutional Members be able to access this new tool?
- The data will be processed and verified and in early spring of 2012 NIRSA Institutional Members will be given access to the information during a robust unveiling - coordinated by the R&A Committee in collaboration with Campus Labs - during the 2012 NIRSA Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Exposition.
- A user manual is currently being developed and will be deployed online.
- Informational training Webinars will begin in April 2012.
