The Registry of Collegiate Recreational Sports Professionals
History
Overview
A hallmark of a maturing profession is defining necessary knowledge and skills of its members. The field of collegiate recreational sports is continuing to evolve, with frequent expansion of the breadth and scope of facility use, and program and service offerings. Around 2003, the NIRSA Board of Directors appointed the Professional Registry Work Team to explore credentialing for Collegiate Recreational Sports.
In September 2007, the NIRSA Board, at the recommendation of the Professional Registry Work Team, approved the establishment of a Professional Registry for the field of collegiate recreational sports. The Registry would emphasize the importance of lifelong learning and continual professional development; provide recognition of collegiate recreational sports as a competency-based profession among higher education institutions and associations that serve higher education interests; and set and define a standard of excellence for collegiate recreation professionals.
