The Registry of Collegiate Recreational Sports Professionals
Core Competencies
Members of the Professional Registry must demonstrate well-rounded cognition from the campus recreational sport management’s body of knowledge, the eight Core Competencies. Collectively, the Core Competencies cover all aspects of the recreational sports industries. Schedules and Programs for NIRSA's Annual Conference, Institutes and Symposia outline which Core Competencies are covered by each educational session. Below are the Eight Core Competencies, along with more detailed subjects that would be covered by educational sessions in each Competency.

Educational sessions in the Philosophy and Theory core competency would cover:
- Trends in recreational sports, and health and wellness theories and models
- Professionalism and ethics
- Student Development Theory
- Participation-based philosophical perspectives
- The CAS Standards for Recreational Sports Programs
- Standards of Practice, issues of equity and diversity, and Student Affairs issues and theories

- Staff/student development
