National Intramural Symposium
June 11-13, 2008 • Raleigh, North Carolina
At the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel
We are proud to go “Back to our Roots” and offer the National Intramural Symposium in a region where NIRSA first began. In 1950, Dr. William N. Wasson organized a meeting of 22 African-American men and women intramural directors from 11 Historically Black Colleges. As a result of this meeting, participants formed the National Intramural Association (NIA) which carried its name until 1975 when it changed to the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA).
The National Intramural Symposium is designed to provide a wide range of development opportunities for intramural programmers. Through a variety of educational sessions in smaller, concentrated settings, the symposium will explore such topics as trends in intramural sports, official’s training techniques, sportsmanship, event management, customer service, and new approaches to scheduling their programs. With the opportunity to network in a smaller setting, intramural programmers will explore programs similar in size and scope to their own.
“Night at the Ballpark” - Wednesday, June 11 - 7:15pm
Thanks to imleagues.com, NIS participants will attend a Carolina Mudcats minor league baseball game at Five County Stadium (pictured). Transportation, game tickets, and all-you-can-eat dinner is provided. The Carolina Mudcats are a Double-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins.
