Career Opportunities Center

The COC enables students and professionals in transition to meet personally with potential programs and employers seeking to fill Graduate Assistantships or full-time positions. Join us at the 2012 COC and let NIRSA help connect you with great opportunities to advance your career.

1. Register for the Annual Conference

  • Students - Your registration for the COC is FREE with your paid Conference registration! Just show your name badge for unlimited access to the COC.
  • Professionals - Access to the COC is available for a nominal fee. Complete details are available on the conference registration pricing page.

2. Prepare

Nearly all of the employers using the COC will have at least one position posted on Bluefishjobs.com in the months/weeks prior to the conference. Review jobs on Bluefishjobs.com prior to the conference and come prepared. Also, see "Using the Mailbox System" below for more time-saving tips.

There will be a free webinar on Wednesday, March 7th that will help orient students and candidates to the COC and all of its features. To register, email Tim Zumwalt at Intern@nirsa.orgwith your name and what school you are with. Please include "COC Webinar Registration" in the subject line.

Bring plenty of copies of your resume and a backup of your resume on a flash drive or disc. The COC will have computer kiosks available for candidates to search Bluefishjobs.com on-site. NIRSA is also offering wi-fi in the COC, so bring your laptop!

3. Check-in

After you have checked-in at Conference Registration and receive your name badge, come to the COC to check-in and activate your candidate box. Messages from employers cannot be forwarded until your mailbox is activated.

4. Using the Mailbox System

Registered candidates will be given a mailbox in the candidate section of the COC. The mailbox will allow you to correspond with the employer mailboxes by leaving your resume and notes for employers registered in the COC. Be aware not every university or business advertising on bluefishjobs.com will have a mailbox at the COC. You may wish to ask the volunteers working in the COC employer mailbox area to verify if a particular employer has obtained a mailbox in the COC.

We will provide correspondence cards in the COC for employers and candidates to correspond. Save time by filling out the correspondence cards in advance of the conference for the job listings you are interested in.

5. Checking Your Mailbox

To access your mailbox at the COC, you will need to show your Conference name badge. Employers will use the mailboxes as their primary vehicle for correspondence. NIRSA recommends that you check your mailbox a few times each day. Be aware the COC is not open all day, each day, and mailboxes are not accessible during times the COC is closed.

The COC is staffed by students and professionals who volunteer to help. If you would like to volunteer, call or email COC Committee Chair Jessi Hobart (601.266.5408).
