NIRSA Foundation Career Opportunities Center: Information for Candidates

Presented by Star Trac

If you are looking for a Graduate Assistant position or work in the intramural/recreation field the Career Opportunities Center (COC) offers access to hundreds of job opportunities. Where else can you interview for positions from all over the country in one friendly location?

Here's how it works:

  1. Register for the Annual Conference
    • Student Members - Your registration for the COC is FREE with your paid Conference registration! Just show your name badge for unlimited access to the COC.
    • Student Nonmembers & Professionals - Use of the COC is available for an additional fee. See complete details on the conference registration pricing page.
  2. Prepare
All employers using the COC will have at least one position posted on Bluefishjobs.com throughout the Conference. You can review jobs on Bluefishjobs.com prior to the Conference to help you be more prepared. Also, see "Using the Mailbox System" below for more time-saving tips.

Bring plenty of copies of your resume and a backup of your resume on a flash drive or disc. The COC will have computer kiosks available for candidates to search Bluefishjobs.com on-site. We are also offering wi-fi in the COC, so bring your laptop too!
  3. Check In
After you have checked in at the Conference Registration area and received your name badge, come to the COC to check in and activate your candidate box. Messages from employers cannot be forwarded until your box becomes active.
  4. Using the Mailbox System
You will have a mailbox in the Candidate section of the COC. This will allow you to correspond with the employer mailboxes by leaving your resume and notes for employers registered in the COC. Be aware not every university or business advertising on bluefishjobs.com will have a mailbox at the COC. You may wish to ask the volunteers working in the COC employer mailbox area to verify if a particular employer has obtained a mailbox in the COC.

We will provide correspondence cards in the COC for employers and candidates to correspond. Save time by filling out the correspondence cards in advance of the Conference for the job listings you are interested in.
  5. Checking Your Mailbox
You will need to show your Conference name badge to check your mailbox at the COC. Employers will place items in your mailbox after you correspond with them about positions. We recommend that you check your mailbox a few times each day. Be aware the COC is not open all day, each day. The mailboxes are not accessible during times the COC is closed.

Volunteer
The COC is staffed by students and professionals who volunteer to help.
