Valerie works closely with the United States Tennis Association to promote their USA Tennis on College Campus programs to NIRSA members. She is the tournament director for the USTA National Campus Championship and the soccer sport club championships. Val assists with the volleyball championships and works closely with the NSC board, sport club championship and Extramural committees in promotion and management of NIRSA's National Campus Championship Series which includes tennis, soccer, volleyball, golf, flag football and basketball. She is the liaison for various NIRSA committees and the
person in charge of fitness and sport club symposia. Val is also the liaison for the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE).
Valerie volunteers for a mentoring group to help produce a running event. She climbs at least one mountain a year, loves spending time outdoors, and works to protect the environment. She has completed an Ironman triathlon, which includes a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and 26.2-mile run. Before a career in sports management, she worked for 16 years as an exercise physiologist. Valerie was the series administrator for the United States Triathlon Series in 1998 and was a consultant for the Lance Armstrong Foundation "Rides for the Rose" in 1999 before joining the NIRSA team.
