NIRSA Foundation Student Scholarships Guidelines and Eligibility

All scholarship applicants must submit their completed application electronically by Sunday, November 20, 2011, 5:00pm Pacific Standard Time. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by Friday, January 6, 2012.

Submission Guidelines

Specific submission guidelines can be found on the individual scholarship applications, but all Student Scholarship applications require a detailed career objective essay, and a letter of recommendation from a NIRSA Professional Member.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Current NIRSA membership through the awarded event is required for scholarship applicants
  • Mark E. Fletcher, William Wasson, Corporate Partner, Sonia and Max Gartenberg, and general Foundation Scholarship applicants must be a graduating senior or a graduate student in good standing with plans to pursue a career in recreational sports. The Mark E. Fletcher Scholarship will be awarded to the applicant that receives the highest cumulative score. William Wasson selection is based on applicants’ GPA and scores.
  • SoCal Scholarship applicants must be a Region VI undergraduate or graduate student in good standing with plans to pursue a career in recreational sports.
  • Salado Consortium (Texas) Scholarship applicants must be an undergraduate or graduate student attending a school in the State of Texas and in good standing with plans to pursue a career in recreational sports.
  • Founders applicants must be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in an HBCU and employed in a Recreational Sports program.
  • Region V applicants must be from a Region V institution and a graduating senior or graduate student in good standing with plans to pursue a career in recreational sports.
  • Frederick R. Braden Scholarship for Social Justice in Recreational Sports applicants must be an undergraduate and graduate student who identifies as an LGBTQI and/or an ally in good standing with plans to pursue a career in recreational sports.
  • Fletcher/Leonida applicants must be a Region II undergraduate or graduate student in good standing with plans to pursue a career in recreational sports.
  • An applicant is limited to receiving one NIRSA Foundation Scholarship as an undergraduate student and one as a graduate student, with one exception: the Founders Endowment award may be received only one time regardless of student or professional status.
  • NIRSA Foundation scholarship awards may not be presented to students either undergraduate or graduate, in consecutive years.
  • All application materials must be submitted by the deadline.
