2012 NIRSA Foundation Professional Scholarships

ALL 2012 SCHOLARSHIPS ARE CLOSED. Please check back in the Fall 2012 for more information on 2013 scholarships.

Professional Scholarships cover the cost of registration fees for the appropriate NIRSA event related to each endowment, and are valid from March 2012 - January 2013.

Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant's financial need, service to the Association, involvement and leadership, as well as relationship of the symposium/conference to job responsibilities. Click here for eligibility requirements. Will Holsberry Endowed Scholarship (3)

The Will Holsberry Endowment was established in 1997 in recognition of Will Holsberry's 24 year service to the Association. As the third Executive Director of NIRSA, the Association experienced tremendous growth under his direction. Will’s vision, dedication, persistence and especially his commitment to the NIRSA are the elements that made him such an outstanding advocate on educating professionals within Recreational Sports. The Will Holsberry Endowment provides a professional member of NIRSA the opportunity for a conference registration to any of the NIRSA schools, institutes or symposia.

Anthony (Tony) J. Chivetta Endowed Scholarship (1)

In 2005, Christopher Chivetta established The Anthony (Tony) J. Chivetta Endowment in honor of the works and passions of his father, Tony Chivetta. As a distinguished architect for over 45 years, he completed some of the nation’s most unique and creative recreation, fitness and wellness centers on collegiate campuses. The Anthony (Tony) J. Chivetta Endowment provides a professional member of NIRSA the opportunity for a conference registration to attend the National Recreation Facilities Institute or NIRSA Annual Conference and Recreational Sports Exposition.

Salado Consortium (Texas) Endowed Scholarship (1)

The NIRSA Foundation Salado Consortium Endowment is to provide funding for scholarships for registration to the NIRSA Annual Conference and Recreational Sports Exposition for professional members who are employed at a Texas school of higher education. The scholarship was established in 2006 by directors from Texas universities to support student and professional development.

Founders Endowed Scholarship (1)

The NIRSA Founders Endowment was endowed in April 2009 in honor of the 20 African American Founders of the National Intramural Association (NIA), formed in 1950. Its purpose is to provide funding for conference scholarships for a NIRSA professional member from a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to attend the NIRSA Annual Conference and Recreational Sports Exposition, or any of the NIRSA schools, institutes or symposia.

Frederick R. Braden (1)

The Frederick R. Braden Scholarship for Social Justice in Recreational Sports provides funding for scholarships for registration to the NIRSA Annual Conference and Recreational Sports Exposition for a student or professional member who is LGBTQI and/or identifies as an Ally. Recipients are selected because they actively work to provide an environment of inclusion and safety for LGBTQI community members in recreational sports environments. This scholarship which provides for registration to the NIRSA Annual Conference and Recreational Sports Exposition was established in January 2011 by Laurie Braden in memory of her father, Dr. Frederick R. Braden who dedicated his life to social justice and equality.
