2008 NIRSA Foundation Scholarships
The NIRSA Foundation, in cooperation with the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association, is dedicated to enhancing the future effectiveness of the collegiate recreational sports community and to maximizing that community's impact on society. The NIRSA Foundation is committed to educational and scholarly projects that enhance leadership development within campus programs. Each year the NIRSA Foundation offers student and professional scholarships to attend various NIRSA educational programs.
The NIRSA Foundation Board of Directors is proud to announce scholarships that are available for Students and Professionals for 2008.

General Information
Student Scholarships cover the cost of registration fees for the NIRSA Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Exposition. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicants NIRSA and school involvement, career objective essay and a letter of recommendation from a NIRSA Professional Member. Applicants are recommended to apply for all scholarships in which they meet eligibility. Application Deadline and Notification
All scholarship applicants must complete and submit their application electronically by Monday, January 15, 2008, midnight pacific time. Applicants will be notified of the success of their application by Thursday, January 31, 2008.
Scholarship Eligibility
- William Wasson, Sonia and Max Gartenberg, Corporate Partner or a general Foundation Scholarship - applicant must be a graduating senior or a graduate student in good standing with plans to pursue a career in recreational sports. William Wasson selection is based on applicants GPA.
- SoCal Scholarship - applicant must be a Region VI undergraduate or graduate student in good standing with plans to pursue a career in recreational sports.
- Salado Consortium (Texas) Scholarship - applicant must be an undergraduate or graduate student attending a school in the State of Texas and in good standing with plans to pursue a career in recreational sports.
- Applicant is limited to one NIRSA Foundation scholarship during the calendar year.
- Applicant is limited to only receiving one NIRSA Foundation Scholarship as an undergraduate student and only receiving one NIRSA Foundation Scholarship as a graduate student.
- NIRSA Foundation scholarship awards may not be presented to students either undergraduate or graduate, in consecutive years.
- Current NIRSA membership is required for scholarship application.
- Applications must be submitted by the deadline.
2008 NIRSA Foundation Professional Registration Scholarships
- Will Holsberry Endowed Scholarship (2)
The Will Holsberry Endowment was established in 1997 in recognition of Will Holsberry's 24 year service to the Association. As the third Executive Director of NIRSA, the Association experienced tremendous growth under his direction. Will's vision, dedication, persistence and especially his commitment to the NIRSA are the elements that made him such an outstanding advocate on educating professionals within Recreational Sports. The Will Holsberry Endowment provides a professional member of NIRSA the opportunity for a conference registration to any of the NIRSA schools, institutes or
symposium.
- Anthony (Tony) J. Chivetta Endowed Scholarship (1)
In 2005, Christopher Chivetta established The Anthony (Tony) J. Chivetta Endowment in honor of the works and passions of his father, Tony Chivetta. As a distinguished architect for over 45 years, he has completed some of the nation's most unique and creative recreation, fitness and wellness centers on collegiate campuses. The Anthony (Tony) J. Chivetta Endowment provides a professional member of NIRSA the opportunity for a conference registration to attend the National Recreation Facilities Institute or the national conference.
General Information
Professional Scholarships cover the cost of registration fees for either the National School of Recreational Sports Management - Level II, Intramural Symposium, National Recreational Facilities Institute, National Marketing Institute, the Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Exposition; or any other NIRSA institute or symposium. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant's financial need, service to the Association, involvement and leadership. - Applicant is limited to receiving one NIRSA Foundation Scholarship per NIRSA Foundation Endowment category.
- Applicant is limited to receiving no more than one NIRSA Foundation Scholarship/Award within three years.
