About the NIRSA Board of Directors
In Future First Governance, the Board of Directors is the visionary leadership that strategically positions and drives the Association. The Board is responsible for strategic planning, oversight of fiduciary and legal responsibilities, establishing Association policy, supervision of the Executive Director, and serving as sole shareholder of NIRSA Services Corporation.
When the Governance Transition is completed in 2012, the NIRSA Board of Directors will be a seven person Board comprised of three officers in the Presidential Track (President, President Designee, and President Elect), three At-Large Directors, and a Board-elected Annual Director.
Governance Transition
As shown in the Board of Directors Transition and Election Cycle document, in 2010 Professional Members elected a President Designee (serving for two years), a President Elect (serving for three years), and an At-Large Director (serving for three years). These three newly elected Board members will serve on the 2010-2011 Board with 2010-2011 President Mike Waldron, Immediate Past President Bryan Harris, Regional Vice Presidents from Regions I, III, and V, and a Board-elected Annual Director.
How to Get Involved
Members interested in serving in a leadership position on the Board are encouraged to review the position descriptions for Presidential Track, At-Large Director, and Annual Director. Nomination forms are available on the Members Only portion of the NIRSA website. Members also have the opportunity to recommend potential nominees to the Nominations & Appointments Committee by completing a Nominee Suggestion Form, also available on the Members Only portion of the NIRSA website.
Recruitment for Board of Director positions generally occurs in the summer and fall. Nomination form deadlines, review of nominees, and the slating process generally occur in the fall, and candidates are announced to the Membership in December. Specific deadlines are determined annually. Electronic elections are concluded 60 days prior to the NIRSA Annual Conference, and newly elected Board members take office at the conclusion of the Annual Conference.
