The NIRSA William N. Wasson Student Leadership & Academic Awards
Nominations are due December 15, 2011
Eligibility
Nominations will be accepted from full-time recreational sports professionals who are Professional Members of NIRSA. Each institution may nominate up to four (4) undergraduate and two (2) graduate students. Graduate students must be a current NIRSA Student Member. A nomination form and a letter of support must be submitted on-line for each nominee. The nominating professional will verify the GPA of each nominee.
Selection Criteria
A maximum of twenty-four awards will be given to undergraduate students, with a maximum of four from each of the six regions within NIRSA. All awards will be of equal value.
A maximum of twelve awards will be given to graduate students, with a maximum of two from each of the six regions within NIRSA. All awards will be of equal value.
The selection committee is comprised of the William N. Wasson Student Leadership and Academic Awards Committee. All six NIRSA regions shall be represented on the committee. The application deadline will be December 15, 2011 by 5:00pm PST.
Undergraduate Criteria
- Nominees must be full-time undergraduate students on a university/college campus at the time of nomination or may have graduated from a university/college campus within the academic year that the award is being bestowed.
- Nominees may be studying any curriculum at their institution but must have a minimum overall grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale or 3.75 on a 5.00 scale.
- Nominees must be participants of, volunteers for, and/or employed by the Department of Recreational Sports.
- Nominees must have demonstrated scholarship or professional development through research, honors, self-improvement, continuing education, certifications, presentations, participation in professional organizations (e.g., internships, NIRSA membership, CPR/First Aid).
- Nominees must have demonstrated involvement in department service through participation in student organizations, employee/campus recreation advisory board representative, committee work, community/campus activity, or leadership in employee training or orientation programs, etc.
- Nominees must have demonstrated campus or community involvement through volunteerism.
- Nominees must have promoted or participated in campus diversity as demonstrated through inclusion, recruitment and/or retention of diverse student populations into recreational sports programs, through participation in orientation, multi-cultural affairs, or related programs.
- Recipients may only receive the award twice - once as an undergraduate student and once as a graduate student.
Graduate Student Criteria
