Recreational Sports Journal Award Winners
Purpose
The purpose of this award each year is to recognize excellence in writing from contributing authors to the NIRSA Recreational Sports Journal. From 1999-2004, an article from each issue was recognized (2 awards/year). Beginning with the 2005 volume of the RSJ, one article from the entire year is recognized (1 award/year). Authors are recognized with a plaque, and beginning with the 2006 award, a $250 stipend to the lead author.
Eligibility
Have an article published in one of the two issues of the NIRSA Recreational Sports Journal during the year in question.
Selection
The selection committee will be composed of the members of the NIRSA Recreational Sports Journal Editorial Board for that year.
Selection Criteria
The criteria used by the Recreational Sports Journal Editorial Board members to choose the annual Recreational Sports Journal Award Winners is:
- The article should appeal to a wide range of the NIRSA membership and be applicable to the diverse organizations that make up NIRSA.
- The article should be substantiated by existing or new research in the field of recreational sports, rather than just the author’s opinion or experience.
- The article should contribute to the expansion of the base of knowledge in the field of recreational sports.
- Readers of the article should find the information presented to be intellectually stimulating and challenging to the existing methods of thought and application.
- The article should motivate the reader to implement the new information and/or encourage additional research on the subject material.
Presentation
Each contributing author will receive a plaque. Winners will be announced at the Annual Conference & Recreation Exposition and recognized at the Honor Awards Banquet. The all authors will receive an inscribed plaque that is consistent from year to year and the lead author will receive a $250 stipend.
Timeline
The selection process will take place each year 2 months before the April Annual Conference.
