Horace Moody Award
Deadline: January 15
This award is provided as a means of recognizing professional members who have made contributions to student development by their encouragement, support, and performance. One NIRSA professional member from each of the six NIRSA regions may be recognized each year for this award.
Eligibility
To be eligible for nomination the individual should meet the following criteria:
- Must be nominated by a current student or professional NIRSA member.
- Must serve as an active and good role model on their campus.
- Must hold a current NIRSA professional membership and have been active for the last two years.
(Note: Individuals who have received this award within the last two years are not eligible.)
Selection Process
Nominees may be submitted from any current student NIRSA member to include nominations from members of the selection committee. The nomination deadline is February 1 of each year and nominations should be sent to the current national student representative for NIRSA. The selection committee will be composed of the seven student representatives (the national student representative will chair the committee and the six regional student representatives will be the members of the award committee). This committee will choose one professional member from each region as regional "Horace Moody
Award" winners.
Selection Guidelines
Nominees for these awards should demonstrate performance in one or more of the following areas:
- Attending Student Lead Ons or Emerging Recreational Sports Leadership Conference
- Being a member of the Student Leadership and Academic Awards Committee
- Being a member of the Student Professional Development Committee
- Participating in the mentor / mentee program as a mentor
- Participation in take a student to lunch session
- Presenting in Student Professional Workshops
- Volunteering in the Career Opportunities Center
In addition to consideration of the nominee's participation in NIRSA sponsored events examples of contributions toward student development and involvement from the nominees own campus are legitimate items that support a candidate.
Presentation
Each nominee will receive a letter of notification regarding nomination for this award. Winners will be announced at regional business meetings and recognized at the student business meeting. Award recipients will receive an inscribed plaque and a list of the winners will be kept in the student manual.
Timeline
The nomination deadline is January 15.
