About the NIRSA Assembly
In Future First Governance, the Assembly is a completely new element. This forward-thinking group is a think tank that will focus on the needs of the profession, an element that didn't previously exist in NIRSA’s governance structure. The Assembly is an important mechanism for germinating ideas, developing leaders, and sharing knowledge; these additional opportunities for member engagement are meaningful and important to the growth and development of the field of collegiate recreation.
Composition
The framework for the Assembly was developed and refined by the Assembly Work Team and Governance Transition Team, and approved by the NIRSA Board of Directors. The Assembly consists of the following members:
The Assembly can expand up to a maximum of thirty people if additional individuals would bring specific knowledge regarding special topics or tasks. To ensure diverse and broad participation opportunities, there will be no more than one person per institution, no more than five members per region, and members in certain leadership positions are not eligible to serve during the term of their other position. Click the position descriptions above to read more details about each of the
positions.
How to get involved
The Assembly is comprised of individuals who enjoy vetting ideas in a highly participatory think tank and desire to be a catalyst for action and results. Energetic people with a broad working knowledge of the profession, a capacity to contribute to current and relevant topics, and/or strategic expertise who are committed to advancing the profession are encouraged to consider serving on the Assembly. Terms run from July 1 to June 30. The application deadline for the 2011-2012 Assembly has passed, but keep this leadership opportunity in mind for future years.
If you would like to suggest a topic related to the profession of collegiate recreation for discussion by your colleagues in the Assembly, please email it to assembly@nirsa.org.
