NIRSA Assembly Composition
The Assembly consists of the following:
The Assembly can expand up to a maximum of thirty people if additional individuals would bring specific knowledge regarding special topics or tasks. To ensure diverse and broad participation opportunities, there will be no more than one person per institution, no more than five members per region, and members in certain leadership positions are not eligible to serve during the term of their other position. Terms run from July 1 to June 30

Six seats reserved for NIRSA members are not restricted by membership classification or length of tenure in the profession, to provide flexibility and expansion as needed.
- Term Length: 2 years.These 6 terms shall be staggered with 3 members joining each year. or 2010-11 there will be three (3) two-year appointments and three (3) one-year appointments
- Appointment Process: pointed by the Nominations & Appointments Committee and approved by the Board of Directors
- Appointment Responsibility Rationale: Requiring Board approval allows for a check and balance to ensure consistency in the process.
Professional Members with Less Than Five Years of NIRSA Membership (4)

Professional Members with less than five years of NIRSA professional membership will reach this segment of the membership and provide a unique generational perspective on the future of the profession while fostering leadership skills.
- Term Length: 2 years.These 4 terms shall be staggered, with 2 new members joining the Assembly each year. For 2010-11 there will be two (2) two-year appointments and two (2) one-year appointments.
- Appointment Process: Appointed by the Nominations & Appointments Committee and approved by the Board of Directors.
- Appointment Responsibility Rationale: Nominations & Appointments Committee has representation from each region and will work with the Regional Representative to reach all potential Assembly members within each region.
Student Members (3)

Student Members will reach this segment of the membership and provide a unique generational perspective on the future of the profession while fostering leadership skills.
- Term Length: 1 year.
- Appointment Process: Nominated by the Regional Student Leaders and appointed by the National Student Leader with assistance from Nominations & Appointments Committee.
- Appointment Rationale: One-year term secures student representation while providing flexibility for students who might be transitioning due to graduation.Student Assembly members who complete their first term may be retained for an additional term under a different seat per the recommendation of the Assembly.
Open Seats for NIRSA Members or Non-members (6)

Six open seats designated for additional NIRSA members, non member affiliates or strategic partners who are vested in the success of our profession to present and shape ideas, bring unique perspectives and challenge the creative process.
- Term Length: 1 year.
- Appointment Process: Recommended by the Assembly and approved by the Board of Directors.For 2010-11 these appointments will be made by the Assembly Work Team and approved by the Board of Directors.
- Appointment Responsibility Rationale: Allows the Assembly input and authority to make recommendations based on identified knowledge needs in topical areas.
Past Presidents Representative-Assembly

The Past Presidents’ Representative-Assembly will bring added knowledge to assist in the decision making process and help foster leadership development.
- Term Length: 1 year.
- Appointment Process: Elected by the Past Presidents. The position is a one-year term, which will be followed by a one-year term as the Past Presidents’ Representative-Network.
- Appointment Responsibility Rationale: The Past Presidents are best able to choose which of their members is best suited for the position.
Board of Directors’ Representative

The Board of Directors’ Representative will be the convener of the meetings to ensure there is clear and concise communication with the NIRSA Board and that the Assembly is focused on tasks that are most important to the future of the profession.
- Term Length: 1 year (renewable).
- Appointment Process: Appointed by the President and approved by the Board of Directors.
- Appointment Responsibility Rationale: The President and the Board have the most knowledge of which board member will be best suited for this position.
